THE ROYAL COMMISSION INTO INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSES TO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE REDRESS RECOMMENDATIONS MUST BE MADE PUBLIC

Labor calls on the Abbott Government to publicly release the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse on redress, due to be handed to the Governor-General today.

Survivors and their families have said very clearly how important redress is as part of healing.

Hundreds of care leavers have shown immense courage in putting their life stories on the public record.

Their stories outline a litany of emotional, physical and sexual abuse.

The Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse is an important part of ensuring the thousands of people affected by these evil crimes have an opportunity to be heard.

Abuse against children is an evil crime.

Anyone who has suffered abuse deserves to have their voice heard and their claims investigated.

That is why Labor established this Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse.

Labor knows that survivors need ongoing support and services to help with healing.

The recommendations by the Royal Commission on redress should be made public as soon as possible so that governments and institutions can respond as quickly as possible to these important recommendations.
