Labor Welcomes Assured Future for Orchestra Victoria

Labor welcomes the announcement that Orchestra Victoria will become a wholly owned subsidiary of The Australian Ballet.

Labor welcomes the announcement that Orchestra Victoria will become a wholly owned subsidiary of The Australian Ballet.

This means that the future of Orchestra Victoria is now assured.

After some uncertainty in recent years, the orchestra will now continue to provide high quality ballet and opera performances for The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, and Victorian Opera.

This new arrangement will mean that high quality ballet and opera performances will continue in Victoria.

Orchestra Victoria will continue as a full time salaried ensemble of 62 players, and as well as supporting the Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Victorian Opera, its regional touring and education activities will also continue.

I understand that the musicians support the new ownership arrangement and the increased certainty for their employment.

Last year Orchestra Victoria delivered more than 150 performances and played to more than 220 000 people.

I look forward to hearing Orchestra Victoria perform with The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, and Victorian Opera for many years to come.
