Clean Energy Opportunities for Burwood Businesses

Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Mark Dreyfus, and the Member for Reid, John Murphy, today visited the Burwood Chamber of Commerce to talk about new measures and opportunities under the federal Clean Energy Future package.

The Australian Government will provide extensive support for jobs, competitiveness and innovation in Australian manufacturing as it moves to the low-carbon global economy of the future, as well as extra tax relief for small business.

The carbon pricing mechanism will impose no red tape on small business, and no reporting or compliance obligations. In addition, the instant asset write-off for small businesses with turnover less than $2 million per year will be increased from $2000 to $6500.

The Government's Clean Technology Investment program will support manufacturers to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon pollution and to support research and development in low pollution technologies.

This includes the $800 million Clean Technology Investment Program and the $200 million Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program. These programs will support jobs and provide incentives for manufacturers to become more efficient, more competitive The Government is also helping small businesses to improve their energy efficiency.

The $40 million Energy Efficiency Information Grants program is an important element of the Government's Clean Energy Future package for the business community. The Energy Efficiency Information Grants will provide practical, tailored advice to small and medium businesses and community organisations on increasing their energy efficiency.

The Grants are aimed at small and medium businesses and community organisations that often don't have the time to research energy efficiency measures or access information about specific steps they can take to make smarter energy choices to reduce their carbon footprint.
