Brandis Must Resign As Attorney-General

This morning the Senate has voted to censure Senator Brandis for his actions in seeking the resignation of the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Professor Gillian Triggs.

BRANDIS MUST RESIGN AS ATTORNEY-GENERAL

 

This morning the Senate has voted to censure Senator Brandis for his actions in seeking the resignation of the President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Professor Gillian Triggs.

 

Senator Brandis is not fit to hold the office of Attorney-General. The time has come for Tony Abbott to show some leadership and demand his resignation.

 

Senator Brandis disgraceful attacks on Professor Triggs have received widespread criticism from the Australian legal community.

 

He has lost the faith of the legal community.

 

He has lost the faith of the Australian people.

 

He has lost the faith of the Senate.

 

He must now resign as Attorney-General.

 

Senator Brandis is responsible for significant damage to reputation of the Australian Human Rights Commission.

 

As Attorney-General his role should be to defend Professor Triggs, instead he has joined with the Prime Minister in attacking her.

 

Professor Triggs is a respected international lawyer of great integrity.

 

The Government should never have interfered with an independent statutory office holder undertaking her role in accordance with the law.
