$7.27 million for the Noble Park Swim Centre

Member for Bruce Alan Griffin MP and Member for Isaacs Mark Dreyfus MP have announced that the Rudd Labor Government would offer $7.27 million towards renewing and upgrading the Noble Park Swim Centre.

“This project will upgrade a valuable local facility to meet the current and future needs of our community,” Mr Griffin said.

“The project will include the replacement of the existing pool with a new 50-metre pool,  construction of a new learn to swim pool and a new water play area, and an upgrade of the waterslide.”

Mark Dreyfus, known as a keen swimmer, said “It is exciting that our local community will have a new pool with modern facilities and pleasant surroundings. This will be a great place for kids to learn to swim and for families to spend time together.”

“I have worked hard with the City of Greater Dandenong to deliver this project, particularly for Noble Park’s Centenary celebrations.”

Mark Dreyfus and Alan Griffin at Noble Park Swim CentreMr Griffin and Mr Dreyfus agreed that the Swim Centre is a Noble Park icon.

Total cost of the project is $12.72 million, with the Government providing the majority of the funding. The funding is part of the largest one-off investment in local infrastructure in Australia's history – the $800 million Community Infrastructure Program.

The Government is investing in community and sporting facilities like this to support jobs and stimulate local economies during the global economic recession.

The works will include:

  • The replacement of outdated facilities with new amenities, including individual and family change rooms, cafe, multi-purpose room, staff facilities, first-aid room and  storage
  • Replacing the existing pool with a new 50-metre, "accessible to all", outdoor pool
  • Construction of a new "learn to swim pool"
  • Creation of a new water play area
  • Upgrade of the waterslide
  • Replacement of the pool plant
  • Incorporation of sports facilities, barbecues, shade protection and picnic areas for family enjoyment
  • Incorporation of water and energy saving measures

More than 3,000 community projects are being funded by the Government across Australia to support jobs and deliver long-term benefits in communities.
